Principal's Message
Rooted In Sherman Oaks Ready for the World.
Welcome to Dixie Canyon Community Charter School, where tradition, innovation, and community pride come together to prepare students to thrive in an evolving world.
Founded in 1947, Dixie Canyon has proudly served Sherman Oaks families for generations. Many of our parents and staff are proud alumni, reflecting the school's lasting impact across fields such as science, education, the arts, entertainment, public service, and business.
At Dixie Canyon, we believe that education must prepare students not only academically, but for a future that demands adaptability, creativity, collaboration, and leadership. Our TK–5th grade program builds a strong academic foundation, enriched by project-based learning, environmental education, performing arts, public speaking, digital literacy, and social-emotional learning.
Beyond the school day, students have access to dynamic after-school enrichment in STEAM, visual and performing arts, athletics, and leadership programs — expanding learning opportunities in every direction.
Our commitment to academic excellence is reflected in our strong performance on the California School Dashboard, where Dixie Canyon consistently meets and exceeds key indicators in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and school climate.
In 2024, we completed a comprehensive campus modernization project that included the construction of a new two-story classroom building housing 14 classrooms. Additionally, a new single-story kindergarten building with two classrooms and dedicated restrooms is under construction, scheduled to open in August 2025. The project also encompasses a new restroom facility, lunch shelter, and playground. These enhancements ensure that all students — from our youngest learners to our oldest leaders — have access to safe, inclusive, and future-ready environments designed to support collaboration, creativity, and 21st-century learning.
Our PTA — with more than 200 approved parent volunteers — strengthens the vibrant, inclusive community that defines Dixie Canyon. In the most recent LAUSD School Experience Survey, over 90% of families reported feeling connected to the school, and the majority indicated high levels of satisfaction with the academic program, campus safety, and overall communication — a reflection of the deep trust and partnership between our school and the families we serve.
At Dixie Canyon, we honor our past while preparing today's students to lead with creativity, empathy, and resilience.
We invite you to experience firsthand the excellence, innovation, and spirit that make Dixie Canyon Community Charter School an extraordinary place to learn, grow, and lead.
With gratitude,
Kevin Kassebaum
